Being productive isn’t as tricky as you think it is. When it comes down to it, the most productive employees are the ones that are most skilled in time management. While we all have the same hours in a day, it’s how we schedule our activities and what things we choose to do that make the difference.

There are a lot of things that go into making a productive employee, including time management and wellbeing. Did you know that happy employees are 12 percent more productive than their peers? Below are just a few of the habits of productive employees. Try them out and see if you can make your work day more productive.

They Wake Up Early

A common theme among some of the most productive people in the world is the time they wake up. Getting up early gives you a head start on your day. It allows you to get going before most people even start thinking about rising. The morning, if done right, can be one of the most productive times of the day because it is filled with minimal distraction and maximum focus. So set your alarm clock, grab a cup of coffee, and say good morning to early days.

Always Avoid Multi-Tasking

One of the most unproductive things you can do is multi-tasking. Despite the common belief that multitasking is going to give you the most reward for your time, it can actually slow you down in the long run. When looking at your list of tasks to do, it’s vital that you pick out the most important ones whether by size or deadline. Focus on those tasks that are the most pressing one at a time so you can give them your full attention. This way you put quality over quantity and end up being more productive overall.

Schedules and Lists are Key

If productive people love one thing it’s schedules and lists. Making lists is a great way to write down your thoughts, stay organized, and see what needs to be done. Once you’ve got a stack of lists, the best thing to do is put them on a schedule so you can effectively manage your time. The best thing about living in the age of technology is that your notes and lists don’t have to be on paper, but can be easily synced to your computer or phone.

They Meditate

Productive people may be organized and great at time management, but they also know how to relax. Meditating is a great way to refocus your mind and bring yourself back down to reality. If you’re stressed out, overwhelmed, or just need a break, try finding a quiet place in the office and practicing some deep breathing exercises. When you come back from meditating, you’ll be surprised at how rejuvenated and motivated you feel.
